Power outages follow winter storms. Generator misuse kills people every year. This message matters.

Generator safety rules.

• Run generators outdoors only.

• Keep generators at least 20 feet from houses.

• Keep generators away from doors, windows, and vents.

• Never run a generator in a garage, basement, porch, or near open windows.

• Never use grills, camp stoves, or propane heaters indoors.

• Point exhaust away from structures.

• Shut down and cool generators before refueling.

• Use outdoor rated heavy duty extension cords.

• Install working carbon monoxide alarms on every level of the home and near bedrooms.

Carbon monoxide kills without warning. No smell. No sound. No second chance.

Dizziness, headache, nausea mean danger. Get outside fast and call 911.
