BACKFEEDING GENERATORS CRITICAL SAFETY MESSAGE

  • Jan 23
  • 1 min read

Backfeeding a generator into a home puts lives at risk.

Backfeeding sends power backward through your electrical system and onto utility lines. This practice kills line workers and starts fires.

Here is why backfeeding is dangerous.

• Sends electricity onto utility lines during outages

• Electrocutes line workers restoring power

• Overloads home wiring• Starts electrical fires inside walls

• Destroys appliances and generators

• Violates electrical and fire codes

What safe generator use looks like.

• Never plug a generator into a wall outlet

• Never connect a generator to a breaker panel without approved equipment

• Use a listed transfer switch or interlock installed by a licensed electrician

• Power only selected circuits through the transfer switch• Run generators outdoors only and away from structures

Line workers assume power is off. Backfeeding proves them wrong. One mistake ends a life.

Protect your family. Protect utility crews. Use generators the right way.

The post is a really important safety reminder about generators and why backfeeding is so dangerous. I remember reading something similar during a technical lesson, and help with online exam gave me more time to understand how electricity flow and safety systems actually work in real life. That made this topic feel more serious and clear to me. It shows how one wrong connection can put workers and homes at serious risk.
