Guilford Fire Department Locates Missing Person with Advanced Drone Technology

Guilford Fire Department Drone used for search and rescue operations

The Guilford Fire Department recently assisted local law enforcement agencies during a search operation involving a missing person in the Guilford / North Branford area. Working together with partnering agencies, emergency responders coordinated a rapid search effort utilizing advanced public safety technology and specialized resources.

During the operation, Firefighter/Paramedic and Drone Pilot John Planas deployed the Guilford Fire Department’s advanced drone technology to assist with locating the missing person. Coupled with thermal imaging and the drone’s enhanced AI identification capabilities, the system quickly detected a heat signature in a heavily wooded area. Planas was able to pinpoint the individual’s exact location, activate the drone’s laser marking system, and transmit precise GPS coordinates to ground crews, guiding them safely and directly to the missing person.

This incident highlights the growing importance of drone technology in modern emergency response operations. Public safety drones equipped with thermal imaging provide emergency responders with the ability to rapidly search large areas, wooded terrain, shorelines, and difficult-to-access locations while improving responder safety and reducing search times.
