Guilford Firefighters Respond To Essex For Propane Emergency

On Thursday afternoon the Guilford Fire Department responded to Essex, CT for a potentially explosive incident when a skidsteer ruptured a 1000-gallon propane tank. The Guilford Fire Dept used specialized equipment to safely pull the skidsteer off of the propane tank just enough for them to cap the broken stem. The tank auto froze just enough to slow the leak down so it could be capped and secured. There was approximately 400 gallons of LPG still in the tank which will be pumped by the owner's Propane Company. This could have been a dangerous situation if it were not mitigated professionally by all those involved.
